Foam Soap School

We had so much fun this morning doing a science experiment. I love when doing things as a group works out so well. My middle ones looked at me like I was crazy when I was putting the soap into the microwave. LOL  ~~~Microwave for 3 mins only~~~

A foam is any material that traps a gas inside a cell-like structure. Examples of foams include shaving cream, whipped cream, Styrofoam, and even bone. Foams can be fluid or solid, squishy or rigid. Many foams are polymers, but the type of molecule isn't what defines whether or not something is a foam.

Two processes occur when you microwave the soap. First, you are heating the soap, which softens it. Second, you are heating the air and water trapped inside the soap, causing the water to vaporize and the air to expand. The expanding gases push on the softened soap, causing it to expand and become a foam. Popping popcorn works in much the same way. When you microwave Ivory™, the appearance of the soap is changed, but no chemical reaction occurs. This is an example of a physical change. It also demonstrates Charles' Law, which states the volume of a gas increases with its temperature. The microwaves impart energy into the soap, water, and air molecules, causing them to move faster and further away from each other. The result is that the soap puffs up. Other brands of soap don't contain as much whipped air and simply melt in the microwave.
Tonight after dinner the littles ones get to enjoy our experiment at bathtime, when you crumble the foam in between your fingers it falls like snow. I explained to Rachael, Jude, and Hannah that tonight they get to have a "snowy bath".

What a Month

What a month! Boy am I glad to have been home all day with my children. Doing what I love to do. We had two family members die this month a week apart. First was my Auntie then was Chris's Grandma.

The Lord really will use the oddest things to steer your heart in the right direction. The night before Chris's Grandma passed away I sat at her bedside as her husband of 62 years held her hand a stroked her hair telling her how much he loved her. Tears a lot of tears streamed off my cheeks. It was one of the most beautiful moments I have ever seen. I can't even give the words for what I saw.
I walked out of the room blessed. Full of gratitude in my heart that I really am living the desires of my heart and I cannot imagine being happier, I cannot imagine living any other way. Every day of my life I get to chose on purpose to love someone to serve someone to show Christ's love through me. I screw up so often it's embarrassing, I am selfish and complain way to much but I can see more clearly than ever that when we are willing He will remove our shortcomings. We can't hide from God but it's our willingness that allows Him to move. I can see Jesus and the way He moves all around me daily. It's profound.

Canada

Presley has been working through Canada Map book 2, I have done these with my older children and 4th time around I am bored! So we decided to throw together a little lapbook. He really liked Rachael's on feelings so I let him go at it.

These picture cards of Canada's animals have facts on the back he enjoyed reading them to the other children, quizzing them on what they knew.

Feelings

We made a Feelings lapbook inside we have feelings flash cards, different heads with faces to put on the bodies. Rachael colored a picture of herself. I asked her "how do you feel?"

Seriously I love 5 year old drawings with the arms coming out of their head. LOL

There was a ton of cutting a pasting for her to do also some printing practise.
               We had fun singing
IF YOU’RE HAPPY AND YOU KNOW IT

If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands.
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands.
If you’re happy and you know it, your face will surely show it.
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands.

Rachael and Jude loved singing even little Hannah got in there and joined us.

Sesame Street Feelings Playlist- These playlists was a fun way to reinforce all the feeling words that we have been discussing this week.
